Happy Feel-Good Friday y’all! I’ve decided to send out a blog post every Friday about the things that made me feel good this week. Just a list of things that brought a smile to my face. Here’s my top five that had me smiling this week:

  • SIX: The Musical on Broadway welcomed their new queens this week: Khaila Wilcoxon as Catherine of Aragon, Storm Lever as Anne Boleyn, Jasmine Forsberg as Jane Seymour, Olivia Donalson as Anna of Cleves, Didi Romero as Katherine Howard, and Gabriela Carrillo as Catherine Parr. SIX is currently celebrating its 2nd anniversary on Broadway and is 80-minutes of nonstop electrifying music and ferocious dancing! “Divorced, beheaded, died, divorced, beheaded, survived. From Tudor Queens to Pop Icons, the SIX wives of Henry VIII take the microphone to remix five hundred years of historical heartbreak into a Euphoric Celebration of 21st century girl power!”
  • If you’re a fan of Waitress: The Musical then it’s your lucky day(s)! They filmed the hit Broadway musical starring Sara Bareilles and you can catch it on the big screen for 5 days only (December 7-11).   • The Alicia Keys musical Hell’s Kitchen is coming to Broadway at the end of March 2024! It’s loosely based on her life as a teenager living in NYC and the buzz around town is very good. It’s currently enjoying a critically acclaimed run at The Public Theater (where Hamilton also got its start).
  • The Red Bucket Follies, our favorite Broadway Variety Show, returned this week (after a four-year pandemic hiatus) and raised $4,553,203 for Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS. Here’s a highlight video of your favorite Broadway shows and performers à https://youtu.be/j8izDwKLRwo
  • Our friends at Fantasy Playhouse Children’s Theater and Academy have done it again: Their beautiful production of A Christmas Carol is sold out for the rest of their run! Stephen Tyler Davis tried to warn you to get those tickets early. “God bless us every one!”

Come From Away with Sharon Wheatley

  Sharon Wheatley, original Broadway cast member of “Come From Away”,  sets the record straight   Having the distinction of being the only actress who’s performed in the Broadway productions of Les Misérables, The Phantom of the Opera and Cats (the final company) among others, Sharon Wheatley was taking a break from New York City when fate intervened and brought Come From Away and her together. Sharon was living in San Diego in 2015 when she received a Facebook message from a casting director saying that she’s perfect for this new show that is originating there, and they needed a local hire. Well Broadway was calling her back to NYC and the rest is history. What was it about Come From Away that persuaded you back to New York City? Come From Away is not a traditional musical. 11 Broadway Shows in 3 Days… Ready for our reviews?

  You might be thinking how in the world did we see 11 Broadway Shows in 3 Days? Especially when Pretty Woman: The Musical was about to play here in Huntsville for five performances. Well, we divided and conquered is how: half of us flew to NYC for a long weekend, while the other half stayed in Huntsville to prepare for Pretty Woman’s arrival. We’re all exhausted, but we’re all equally inspired! Pretty Woman was a big success. BIG! HUGE! The audiences loved it. And now that they’re off to their next tour stop, I can share our reviews on the 11 shows we saw in NYC: The Great Gatsby : The show was visually stunning. A big splashy Broadway musical for sure with the sets & the costumes, set in the 1920’s, and what a feast for the eyes! Jeremy Jordan was outstanding. We’re still in shock that he didn’t receive a Tony nomination for this one. We highly recommend The Great Gatsby if you’re a fan of the book and/or the movie(s).
