Tony-nominated for Jesus Christ Superstar, Josh Young reveals “What’s the Buzz” (Part One)

It’s a reunion of the “Barricade Boys,” and I get to put the spotlight on the uber-talented, and my friend, Josh Young. I won’t annoy you with a #IYKYK, but rather explain that if you were ever a male member of the Marius Company Tour of Les Misérables then you were also an official member of the “Barricade Boys.” I believe Josh and I met in September of 2003 when he joined the tour in Atlanta as Marius. He also has the distinction of playing Marius in more subsequent productions than any other actor. As you know I could talk about Les Misérables all day long but let’s skip ahead to the Jesus Christ Superstar part.

Making it to Broadway is an incredible feat in and of itself, but can you imagine also being nominated for a Tony Award for your Broadway debut? Well Josh can because that’s exactly what happened for him when he played Judas in the Broadway Revival of Jesus Christ Superstar in 2012. And I will be giving you the insider’s scoop on all of that and more in PART TWO of “Tony-nominated for Jesus Christ Superstar, Josh Young reveals “What’s the Buzz”. Josh has promised to deliver the goods when we speak next week. Alas he is currently in NYC wearing his other hat as Associate Professor and Coordinator of Musical Theatre at Missouri State University. He has fourteen students (aka the future stars of tomorrow) there to perform in their Senior Showcase for Broadway Creatives, Agents, Managers, etc.

In the meantime, here’s some more hints of things I will be fleshing out for you in PART TWO after Josh and I talk:

  • He also won the Theatre World Award for Best Debut Performance as Judas in Jesus Christ Superstar
  • Originated the role of John Newton on Broadway in the World Premiere of Amazing Grace; He’s also on the Original Broadway Cast Recording of this show.
  • Josh played Che in Evita in the North American Tour of the Olivier Award-winning revival; Won Best Actor in a Musical from Broadway World for his portrayal of Che.
  • He played Tony in West Side Story, touring Europe, and Asia in this 50th Anniversary Tour.
  • Josh has two solo albums which are both available on iTunes and Amazon Music:  "Still Dreaming of Paradise"; Self-titled album, "Josh Young"
Stay tuned for PART TWO on Kip's Korner next week, where Josh and I will take a deep dive on his career and life in general. If you have any questions you'd like me to ask Josh then comment below. I promise to ask him!

Josh as Marius (Center); Kip as Montparnasse (Upstage between Valjean and Fantine)
